GRADUATING SENIORS - SUBMIT YOUR CORE 10 ESSAY FOR THE LANEY AWARD!!
  • The Laney Award Committee invites submissions for the 2012 Frank and Rachel Anne Laney Award, which recognizes the graduating senior who has written the finest Core 10 essay reflecting on the value of a Millsaps liberal arts education.
  • From the submitted essays, a faculty panel will select finalists whose papers will be published as a record of the seniors’ reflections. One winning essay will be selected for the Laney Award based upon its excellence in thought and expression. The Laney Award winner is announced at Commencement and receives a prize.
  • Submissions can be sent via email to Dr. DeRouen (deroua@millsaps.edu); your submission should be in the form of an attached file (MS Word Document format--.doc—preferred). We will begin accepting submissions from seniors who have completed the Core 10 requirement immediately; the submission deadline for all graduating seniors is April 27, 2012.

VOLUNTEER GOLF CART DRIVERS NEEDED
Students, THIS is your chance-
“To drive the shiny white golf carts you can’t help but gaze at when you pass by....” 
The Division of Student Life and Graduation Committee are looking for responsible student volunteer golf cart drivers for Graduation Day (May 12, 2012).  You will be needed before and after the ceremony to cart people to and from the Bowl.  If interested, please contact Tiffany Hammond or Laura Register at eventscheduling@millsaps.edu.  Let us know if you have any questions.

NEW SOCIOLOGY/ANTHROPOLOGY FACULTY AND COURSES
The Sociology/Anthropology Department is pleased to announce a new visiting faculty member for the 2012-13 academic year as well as a visiting alumna who will be teaching classes this summer term. 
  • Starting in the fall semester, Dr. Louwanda Evans, whose work focuses on race, gender, and emotional labor, will join us as visiting assistant professor of sociology.  She will teach Introduction to Sociology, Methods and Statistics, and Deviance. 
  • This summer (Summer I), alumna Chelsi West will teach Introduction to Anthropology.

    MILLSAPS SINGERS SPRING CONCERT "MORE AMOR"
    Friday, April 20, 7:30pm – 8:30pm, AC Recital Hall
    Singers present their spring choral concert, conducted by Dr. Timothy Coker. Brahms' sparkling miniatures of the Op. 52 "Liebeslieder Waltzes" form the center of this concert of music for chorus and piano. Our natural romantic inclinations in the Spring will be explored.     2012 STYLUS RECEPTION
    You are Invited to the 2012 Stylus Reception.
    Please join us in celebrating the contributors of Volume 62 of the annual literary magazine, Stylus, Monday at 5:00 in the English House. At the reception, Volume 62 will be revealed and released. Award recipients will also be recognized and presented with awards. All are welcome to attend, pick up a free copy of the Stylus, and enjoy the refreshments and celebration.

    KICKIN' FOR THE KIDS SOCCER TOURNAMENT
    Tri Delta is proud to host their first annual Kickin' for the Kids, a 5v5 soccer tournament on Friday, April 20th at 3:30 in the Galloway Lawn to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. There will be a sign up table outside of the cafeteria and teams will enter with 5 people for $25. Every participant will receive a St. Jude Children's Research Hospital goody for participating and there will be contests, such as Best Team Jersey, for prizes. We hope to see you there to support a very good cause!

Bring your ideas about how to make feminism and women's / gender issues more visible and accessible on campus and throughout the community! Meet us at Aladdin's in Fondren at 5:30 pm, Friday, April 20.
