LAST DAY TO GET YOUR YEARBOOK PORTRAITS
The last portrait day for the 2011-2012 yearbook will be Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm in the student center lobby right outside of the ‘Caf!
There is no cost to have your photo in the yearbook.
We want you to be in the 2012 Bobashela so make sure you come by and have your photo taken!
                                             



STOP HUNGER NOW

The United Methodist Men of Mississippi will be hosting the 2nd Annual Stop Hunger Now Fundraiser and Banquet. The event will take place THIS FRIDAY April 13, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm in the Leggett Center. Our very own Jayson Porter will be receiving the Stop Hunger Now Hunger Leadership Award at the event, and we hope that you can make it and support Jayson and this great cause. Tickets are $5 for students with ID’s and $10 for general admission. Please contact Jonathan Webb at webbjr1@millsaps.edu for more info or to buy tickets. Tickets will also be on sale at a table outside the caf.

                                                

NEW SOCIOLOGY/ANTHROPOLOGY FACULTY AND COURSES
The Sociology/Anthropology Department is pleased to announce a new visiting faculty member for the 2012-13 academic year as well as a visiting alumna who will be teaching classes this summer term. 
  • Starting in the fall semester, Dr. Louwanda Evans, whose work focuses on race, gender, and emotional labor, will join us as visiting assistant professor of sociology.  She will teach Introduction to Sociology, Methods and Statistics, and Deviance. 
  • This summer (Summer I), alumna Chelsi West will teach Introduction to Anthropology.

1 CAMPUS 1 COMMUNITY: CONNECT LEARN GROW
BLOCK PARTY - THIS FRIDAY!!
The 6th Annual 1C1C Block Party is this Friday from 4:30-6:30! The Caf' will be closed down, but dinner will be served on the lawn in front of the CC, so we hope you will join us for an afternoon of fun and socializing with our Midtown neighbors!
                                       

TODAY!! 2ND ANNUAL MUSCLES BUILD WELL EVENT
Come out on TODAY at 4:00pm to the Galloway Lawn to participate in the 2nd annual Muscles Build Well event! This year, the event is a three-part water relay! Teams of four can sign up to participate outside the ‘Caf. Don't want to participate in the water relay? Come out and buy your way into the game to create extra obstacles for the participants in the form of ... water balloons! All proceeds for the water relay will go to charity: water, an organization that builds wells and sanitary facilities in areas without easy access to clean water (Check out charitywater.com for more information).
                                          


THE TRANSGENDER EXPERIENCE: FRIDAY, APRIL 13, 12:30 AC 215
How do issues facing the transgender experience reflect our current cultural climate with regard to human rights, discrimination, and religion? What are the psychological sources of gender identity? Duncan McCullough, a Millsaps alumnus who attended the College under the name Roxanne, will speak on his experiences as a transgendered man at this FREE forum.
Sponsored by the Women's and Gender Studies department and the Millsaps College Feminists.
                                                  



KICKIN' FOR THE KIDS SOCCER TOURNAMENT

Tri Delta is proud to host their first annual Kickin' for the Kids, a 5v5 soccer tournament on Friday, April 20th at 3:30 in the Galloway Lawn to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. There will be a sign up table outside of the cafeteria and teams will enter with 5 people for $25. Every participant will receive a St. Jude Children's Research Hospital goody for participating and there will be contests, such as Best Team Jersey, for prizes. We hope to see you there to support a very good cause!
                                                      

DOCUMENTARY SCREENING - "FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO"
Can the love between two people be an abomination?
Is the chasm separating the LGBT community and Christianity too wide to cross?

These are questions at the heart of Daniel Karslake's award winning documentary For the Bible Tells Me SoJoin Theta Alpha Kappa for a screening of For the Bible Tells Me So on Monday April 16th at 7:30 in AC 215. Snacks Included and discussion to follow!
