Time: 6pm
Location: AC 215

Talk - Andrew Burkitt (Friday Forum on
Thursday Night !) October 10 (AC 215) 6-7 PM "I begin with the premise
that nothing exists outside of our experience of our lives; I tell myself
continually that there is nothing except the constant, ever changing moment. I
do this in order to simplify my working process and to dull the anxiety I feel
living in this world beset by numerous worries.
It helps me to focus primarily on the occupation of mark making,
arranging and assembling that comprises the majority of my work. My hope is that
this process will result in an object that evokes a kind of empathy from the
viewer and a communion. My work is about acknowledging the communion that
exists between people and proposing the dismal idea of an existence without
others."
Black Student Union Roundtable Discussion Tonight
Have you ever wondered why Millsaps has a
Black Student Union? Did you even know Millsaps had a Black Student Union?
Over
the years, BSU has received many questions about its place on campus, such as
“What if there was a White Student Union?”
“Isn’t
that racially exclusive, a form of segregation?”
“Can
a non-black person join BSU?”
Well,
these are all fair questions. And BSU is more than happy to answer these
questions for you during our Roundtable Discussion on Thursday evening, October 10,
2013 at 7:30 PM in Sullivan Harrell, Room 367.
We
hope this discussion will answer all of your questions as well as ignite more
conversations that will lead to a deeper understanding of the black community
and show the necessity for open discussions in order to create a comfortable
education environment at Millsaps College.
Hope
to see you there!!

Saffron Cross Events
Author J. Dana Trent and her husband Fred Eaker will join
the Millsaps College community for a series of events on Friday, November 8 and
Saturday, November 9.
“The possibility that I’d get matched with
anyone who wasn’t a Christian is minute, anyway, right?”
Saffron
Cross is the intriguing memoir of
Dana, a Baptist minister, and Fred, a devout Hindu and former monk. The two
meet on eHarmony and begin a sometimes daunting but ultimately inspiring journey
of interfaith relationship and marriage. Trent’s compelling vignettes, often
hilarious and refreshingly honest, offer readers a glimpse into the challenges
of bringing together two vastly different spiritual paths into one household.
This book includes chapters on an Indian ashram honeymoon, vegetarianism,
sabbath-keeping, prayer, and grief, plus other challenges of interfaith
relationships.
Millsaps
Multi-Faith Initiative Conversation: 3:00-4:00pm on Friday, November 8 in
