Strength and Professionalism as a Woman in Today's Law Practice

These women are models of decorum and professionalism in the law community and have graciously volunteered their time to share with us their their unique experiences in this historically "man's world."  This is a must see for all pre-law interested students and is open to all students on campus who may be interested in meeting an outstanding and successful group of professionals.

On Wednesday, October 30, at 11:30am in Murrah 200, come hear an outstanding group of women discussing "Strength and Professionalism as a Woman in Today's Law Practice."

Town Hall Meeting with the President

Dear Students,

As you may know, the Millsaps College Board of Trustees met last week on campus.  It was a productive and positive meeting and much good was accomplished.  In the course of the meetings, the administration presented an update on the new campus master plan, our strategic plan, campus enhancements, and the core curriculum review.  Rob Alexander, Vice President for Enrollment and Communication, also presented our new strategic enrollment plan and discussed marketing and communications initiatives underway.

It would be Dr. Alexander’s and my pleasure to present similar updates to our student body and answer any questions you may have about these or other topics.  Please join me in the Leggett Center on October 30th at 8:00 p.m. for a Town Hall Meeting for students, co-sponsored by the SBA and my office.

Refreshments will be served beginning at 7:45 p.m.

I hope to see many of you at the Town Hall Meeting!

Saffron Cross Events

Author J. Dana Trent and her husband Fred Eaker will join the Millsaps College community for a series of events on Friday, November 8 and Saturday, November 9.

“The possibility that I’d get matched with anyone who wasn’t a Christian is minute, anyway, right?”
“Right,” God giggled.
Saffron Cross is the intriguing memoir of Dana, a Baptist minister, and Fred, a devout Hindu and former monk. The two meet on eHarmony and begin a sometimes daunting but ultimately inspiring journey of interfaith relationship and marriage. Trent’s compelling vignettes, often hilarious and refreshingly honest, offer readers a glimpse into the challenges of bringing together two vastly different spiritual paths into one household. This book includes chapters on an Indian ashram honeymoon, vegetarianism, sabbath-keeping, prayer, and grief, plus other challenges of interfaith relationships.

Friday Forum Lecture: 12:30-1:30pm on Friday, November 8 in the Academic Complex, room 215

Millsaps Multi-Faith Initiative Conversation: 3:00-4:00pm on Friday, November 8 in the Christian Center, Fitzhugh Memorial Chapel

Writing as a Spiritual Discipline Workshop: 9:00am-12:30pm on Saturday, November 9 in Sullivan-Harrell Hall, room 221 -- Register online here: saffronatmillsaps.eventbrite.com

Community Conversation: Co-sponsored with Northminster Baptist Church and the Hindu Temple Society of Mississippi – 3:00-4:30pm on Saturday, November 9 at the Hindu Temple, 173 Vernon Jones Ave., Brandon, MS

Healthy Monday Tip

One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Measure
Keep track of how much you’re eating by living with your food packaging and remains. One study offering all-you-can eat chicken wings found that participants whose leftover bones had been cleared away ate 34% more than diners whose remnants remained at the table. That’s a lot of wings! Visual reminders - like candy wrappers, soda cans and take-out receipts – can help you keep track of how much you’ve already consumed, so you’ll be less likely to overeat.

This week take the no-throw challenge and keep your wrappers, empty containers, bones and other bits on the table during the entire meal.
