GEORGE J. MITCHELL POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP
If you would like to consider a year of post graduate study in either the Irish Republic or Northern Ireland beginning in fall 2013, do I have information for you. The George J. Mitchell Postgraduate Scholarship supports one year of graduate study at any of nine universities in the two Irelands. They speak English there, after a fashion. The application deadline for study beginning in fall, 2013 is October 2, 2012. In other words, rising seniors are eligible to apply between now and Oct. 2, 2012. Twelve recipients are chosen each year.
The Mitchell Scholarship is a prestigious, competitive scholarship program. If you want to be a credible candidate, you have to start thinking about the essays you’ll need write well in advance. You can’t wake up on the morning of Oct. 2 and think, “Gee, I think I’ll apply for the Mitchell.” To be a viable candidate, you’ll have to devote some serious preparation time. You’ll need to work on your application over the summer in order to meet the deadline. We on the Scholarship/Fellowship Committee are willing to help you prepare, if you want to pursue the Mitchell Scholarship.
If you would like additional information about the Mitchell Scholarship, please contact Dr. Pat Taylor, pat.taylor@millsaps.edu or (601) 974-1274. It may be a long way to Tipperary, but winning one of the Mitchell Scholarships can get you there!
