And what does it mean for the World?
The Religious Studies Department
is pleased to present a public lecture by
Dr. Younus Mirza

al-Qaeda in Today's World

With the recent attacks in Libya, and unrest in parts of the Arab world, is there a resurgence and wave of conservatism engulfing the Arab world or has a new generation of Arabs and Muslims rejected al-Qaeda's extremism, looking for a new path of democracy and mutual understanding?
COME, AND LEARN!

Monday, November 5 at 7 p.m.
Murrah Hall Room 200

Dr. Younus Y. Mirza (Ph.D. Georgetown) has studied Islam in the U.S. and in the Middle East. He now teaches in the Religious Studies Department of Millsaps College.

Panel discussion after Distracted on November 9.

After the Nov. 9 performance of Distracted, we will hold a panel discussion during which audience members may ask questions to experts.  The panel will be of interest to students of psychology, sociology, neuroscience, pre-health, and education – and to anyone who has personal experience with ADHD. Panelists  include Dr. Molly S. Clark, assistant professor of family medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and adjunct education professor at Millaps; Dr. Katie Hahn, clinical psychology professor at Millsaps; a Millsaps student who grew up with ADHD; and a parent of a child with ADHD. The facilitator will be Dr. Stacy DeZutter, assistant professor of education at Millsaps.

What's wrong with nine-year-old Jesse? He can't sit still, he curses, he raps, and you can't get him into—or out of—pajamas. His teacher thinks its Attention Deficit Disorder. Dad says, "He's just a boy!" And Mama's on a quest for answers. Is Jesse dysfunctional, or just different? Don't we all have ADD, to some degree?

Millsaps College
Drug Violation Penalty Notice

Drug violations and their penalties are handled through the College’s Student Conduct system.  Each case is reviewed individually based on certain factors, including the drug involved; the amount of that substance; as well as other relevant circumstances (offender’s conduct history; offender’s behavior and actions; conditions under which drug was being possessed or used, etc.)

Regardless of variables listed above, there are also base-line penalties:

For cases involving marijuana, or other Schedule I controlled substances:

For the first offense, a student is issued a fine; placed on disciplinary probation; and must undergo an online educational course.  Additional sanctions may be applied.

For the second offense, a student is issued a fine; can lose residence hall assignment (if applicable); must complete an assigned number of hours of community service.  Additional sanctions may be applied.

For Schedule II controlled substances, and other narcotics (cocaine; methamphetamine; ecstasy, etc):

Offenses are handled on a case-by-case basis; minimums listed above apply, as well.
In any case involving controlled substances or illegal drugs, the College reserves the right to refer the case to local, state and federal authorities.

For a full explanation the College’s Drug Policy, see Major Facts, the Millsaps College Student Handbook, at www.millsaps.edu/student_life/student_life_major_facts.php
